  • In order to qualify for the Federal Commercial Building Tax Deduction the IRS requires that you follow the modeling and inspection guidelines published by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Their document, NREL/TP-550-40567, provides guidance for modeling and inspecting energy-efficient property in commercial buildings for certification of the energy and power cost savings noted in Internal Revenue Service Notice 2006-52.
